Newsletter: Trump Doubles Down on Bump Stock Ban
BY PGF1 year, 7 months ago
His ego is incredible. He’s not stupid but so self-centered that he’s unwilling to learn; he’s an ignoramus. That’s not name-calling; it’s the correct term. Same with vaccines and shutting down the economy.
Former President Donald Trump defended his decision to unilaterally ban bump stocks, which he called “very unimportant,” during a CNN town hall on Wednesday night.
The Republican presidential primary frontrunner didn’t turn back on his support for the ban, which has since been found unconstitutional by two federal appeals courts. He said he consulted with the National Rifle Association (NRA) before issuing an order to the ATF to find a way to outlaw the devices. He said the group was supportive of his effort.
“As you know, the bump stocks are actually a very unimportant thing,” Trump said. “NRA I went with them, and they said, ‘it doesn’t mean anything, or actually all they do is teach you how to shoot very inaccurately.’ So, we did that.”
It’s a bill of accuracy.
Still, former President Trump defended his record on guns.
“There’s been nobody that’s protected the Second Amendment,” he said. “There’s, you know, like I have I protected through thick and thin, not easy to do.”
He later nods to Red Flag laws by bringing up “mental health.”

You run into the phenomenon fairly frequently with people who are “self-made” and have had to rely on their own wits and resources to get ahead in life. The more-successful they are, often, the stronger the effect. DJT has obviously gotten ahead in life, financially and otherwise, and he did it by sticking to what he knew. Or so he probably believes.
As you already discussed, the flip-side of that particular coin is dogmatism, an unwillingness to learn from others, and an illogical stubbornness. Many of these types, when challenged, rather than modify their views, dig in their heels all the more.
There is a certain kind of wisdom which only comes from defeat and having suffered setbacks. The trouble with guys like DJT is that they have not been through that particular tempering fire – so to speak – in their lives, or at least not enough for it to have made them humble and a bit less sure of themselves.

When trump was running for president he published a white paper concerning gun rights. His stated position was no new gun restrictions and expansion of carry rights among other things. Once elected he quickly forgot that.
The bump stock ban and his endorsement of Red Flag Laws were contrary to his stated positions. Remember he also appointed his little daughter, I call her “Gun Control Barbie”, to work with Linsey Graham to make a grand bargain with the Congress regarding gun control. We will never know what other rights he was willing to compromise because the deal fell through when he was impeached.
His stance on the vax is ridiculous at this point. He claims he saved “millions of lives” he still defends the mass murderer Fauci. So Trump is a confirmed liar and displays terrible judgement. He does not possess the character to be president or be a leader of any kind.
Why his supporters give him passes on these issues is beyond me.

It’s a cult. We live in a world where critical thinking and logic are absent in 90% of the population. They want someone to worship. The other side did the same with Obama.

Using politics to advance individual liberty is like eating other people to eradicate cannibalism. Human freedom is not a component of political success.

Government authoritarian “logic” might otherwise indicate that eating people, on a long enough timeline, does, in fact, eradicate cannibalism. We need a new governmental department and a national program immediately to implement this plan!
