Go Bag Spring Cleaning
BY PGF1 year, 5 months ago
Friendly reminder post. Some folks have a specific date or event that signal seasonal gear swap and home changes. Depending upon your area, it’s time to inspect and swap items in your car kit/go-bag/get-home bag. Dump the bag(s), and inspect all items. For those items you had a mind to upgrade, do just that, relegating lesser items to backup roles. Swap out cold for warm gear as needed for your specific area/elevation. This may include items other than clothing. Sometimes it can be tricky as some zones still have a snowpack, but it reaches almost 60F during the day.
Do what you want with your firearms gear but doing a semiannual inspection and review is always a good idea. Might as well do it in conjunction with the other stuff.
Know your heart, your family or team, your area, and your gear. If you got fat or lazy this winter, fix that right now!
Here are a couple of videos with quick-hit tips for survival. I like this guy. No muss, no politics, no cussing, straight delivery, seemingly without the desire for a cult of personality around his channel. If he ever did a presentation or event in my area, I’d probably go.

Since I can experience all 4 seasons in one day, my go bag isn’t really seasonal, per se. But it does get dumped once in a while to make sure things are still in the shape they should be – especially disposable type things like spare batteries. Nothing worse than pulling leaking batteries out of a bag – so keep your spare batteries in a secondary containment and pull the batteries out of flashlights/headlamps to check for leakage.

I started watching his videos thru American Partisan. He’s got a great delivery and narrating skills.

Got backpacks placed in large leather travel bag and it is doable for carry, rucking might cause local Karens to call the gestapo, but I have tested it walking around indoor.
Firestarters, basic med kits, tourniquet, choking clearing kit (h/t-Bro), salves and ointments pack, flashlights, optics (binoc/scope), candles, these are some of the items.
Playing cards, Bible, some small paperbacks for morale maintenance.
Warm and cold weather clothing duffel bags as well with one full of watch caps another with gloves, mittens.
A lined shopping bag has new in pack socks, drawers.
All are stacked by the door and ready to go for when the kulak purging goes kinetic.
One ammo can and cleaning kit for light carry weapon maintenance and magazine pouches.

Don’t use alkaline or carbon-zinc batteries in your bag equipment. Spend the money on Energizer Lithium Ultimate cells. They’re expensive, but work down to -40 degrees, have a guaranteed shelf life of 20 years and NEVER leak. That flashlight should be an LED with different brightness levels to save battery life and wrapped in aluminum foil to protect against an EMP. Don’t you want to KNOW that if your vehicle breaks down on a cold rainy night (never mind the SHTF) that your flashlight will absolutely work?
