Nowadays you’ll get a busy signal or someone who can barely speak English at 911.
Can you imagine being so dull and void to think that muh poleece are coming to save you, yet there are not just some but many who do.

About 20 years ago, two young punks were breaking into my neighbor’s cabin on the mountain we live on, at twilight. We had just moved in, and I was home alone doing farm chores. I called 911, grabbed a long gun and ran to my other neighbor’s house, who was a relative of the break in house, but he declined to help, so I went up to confront them alone. They saw me with the long gun and took off, and it was all over in a few minutes with very little damage to the home, but the police took 42 minutes to arrive (not their fault; they have a small number of police to range a huge swath of mostly unpopulated, rural area). I don’t think I would have wanted to face those two young men with just, what, harsh language??

Even if you dial 911, whomever responds is the second responder – not the first. You are the first responder. Prepare appropriately. YMMV.
Cops arrive in minutes, violent crimes are started and finished in the blink of an eye.
911 is a useful tool for cold calls.
I still have friends at OPD, and SFPD, what a shit show.
Killings easy, it’s point, apply four five pounds of pressure to a trigger, police your brass move off the X. Sounds easy it’s not in these times. Evidence collections going into some amazing resources.
Geo fencings a real thing, if you as a citizen wanna pay for it out of your own pocket zero warrants are required. The affidavit for GF is a boiler plate generic very basic document. Fill it out phone it in to a judge “ most bigger area’s now have a judge or three on call specifically to handle telephonic warrants. The judges verbal-authorizations all that’s needed. Use to be five days to respond to that judge for signature, after the fact.
So many tools available to the “ switched on investigator”
Phones.
Vehicles.
Ring bell.
Pace makers.
Artificial body parts.
Don’t forget the folks with the suspect. They are subject to the above, believe me if it’s them going down or you, your history, it’s human nature.
The good news, well reasonable news is this, IF you live in a smaller town, away from bigger cities, and are involved in a shooting or violent crime, I believe justice is still possible, in communities whom have voted in responsible DA’s and Judges. We have that here. I’m still pro law enforcement, however I acknowledge the issues are realistic as noted here on CJ.
Lastly we are all directly responsible for ours and our families health and safety. In time crunch issues we are simply not going to await police’s arrival.
Carrying a gun daily requires maturity and responsibility, good decision making skills, if you’re lacking in any of these,,,, well, life’s about choices.
Oakland and San Fran are the Wild West anymore, visiting either place is a poor choice, likely to cause yourself, your loved ones much grief. I’m a native Californian, left in 87, the state in and of itself has achieved a third world status.
I see this shift as intentional, a lot of money to be made by people with the willful destruction of Calif.
We hire “professionals” to do the job for which WE have the primary responsibility. Those “first responders” you are supposed to submit to, are doing YOUR JOB!
We, as a society have outsourced our obligations. This is a form of abdication.
God help us!

It’s obscene that cops have no legal duty to protect you… yet in many jurisdictions you need their permission to have a gun to protect yourself.
And in many of those jurisdictions they simply do not give such permission. And they will be happy to arrest you for carrying without permission while the actual criminals go scot-free.
