Constitutional Carry in Omaha Hardly Lives Up to Its Name
BY Herschel Smith1 year, 1 month ago
“You have the right to carry the gun on you. But you also need to let law enforcement know, for their protection, everything else, so that that you have the firearm on you,” Capt. Keith Williamson of the Omaha Police Department gang unit asserted. He added that additional charges can be “tacked on with other serious charges” to offenses like gang crimes and that the bill forcing the city “to repeal some ordinances around firearms … made it more difficult trying to track guns in the wrong hands.”
“For their protection.” Why do they get to decide the rules? I’m not interested in their protection. I’m only interested in my own protection and that of my family and friends.
Cops don’t rate for protection in my book.
And moreover, I’m never in more danger than when the police are around. There is no situation so bad that it cannot be made worse by the presence of the police.

You highlight what I see as the serious underlying problem facing us well, everywhere.
Government seems to think we exist for their purposes. All forms of it, all branches of it, doesn’t matter what segment you are engaging with or talking about. Hell, all of Congress has one job according to The Constitution – make the budget. When was the last budget passed? No, not stopgap spending measure, a budget.
Can’t answer it, can you?
It’s been THAT LONG since CON gress did their job, their actual job, in their actual job description.
But nothing happens, nobody ever is held to account, so there’s no changes, and it all only ever gets worse.
But keep voting! It’ll work one of these times, you just keep trying harder!

“There is no situation so bad that it cannot be made worse by the presence of the police.”

I hate being in “Must Notify” states. Nebraska is one such so-called, must-notify state. Many states require that upon contact with police, you divulge that you’re armed. It’s a horrible law that endangers all parties. If you have the right to carry at all, then you have the right to do it without it being anybody else’s business. What is a right that you must divulge other than potential self-incrimination?

The notification requirement is not for their protection. It is so they have more options to screw with you. If you live in a must notify state then failure to do so will be an excuse to arrest. If you do notify then they have a right to inspect the weapon and separate you from it while they conduct their business.
It is all just about control and their ability to violate your rights anytime they want to.

It’s no longer concealed if you go around telling everyone you have it.
