Shotgun Shell Carrier and Shell Corrossion

This is almost enough to make me employ a polymer shell carrier.
Most of the comments are focused on moisture and/or salt. Has this ever happened to you before?

Should probably engage in shooting practice a bit more often. That would solve problems such as these. For truly long term storage of ammo…of any type… there are better methods than this.

No.
I’ve kept brass self defense ammo in a magazine for a few years with no perceptible effect other then a slight discoloration.
That shell carrier must be around household chemicals or in the vicinity. Most military surplus ammo pouches must have better resistance to moisture, I’ve kept ammo in them for length of time to no effect.

I’ve had shells change color where constricted but never corrosion like that. Shells left in leather loops will definitely develop verdegris.

Active dehumidifiers with actual water reservoirs near your kit is another way to prevent this.

Nope, but I live in a very dry climate, actually I have seen that blue green before, on goose hunting on 3.5 steel shot brass.season to season
Personally I’d tumble em in my brass cleaner, good as new.

Never had that happen before to something that was on the gun, but then humidity is generally just something we’ve heard about around here, but seldom encounter.

I had a leather cartridge belt, with loops. I left a bunch of Winchester .30-06 Silvertips in it, and forgot about it. Many years later, the brass had verdigris and the Silvertips had oxidized into a white powder. I cleaned them up with steel wool, and they all fired. I did not test for accuracy.
