Get your thumb away from the forcing cone and cylinder gap, lady.

Recently, I shot a Chiappa Rhino 357 Mag with some hot loads. Since it fires from the bottom of the cylinder, my normal thumb position wasn’t quite right. No real injury but the tip was numb and blackened and it took a while for the embedded powder/jacket flecks to work their way out. I was surprisingly pleased with it considering I usually don’t like weird guns.
For the impatient and/or time constrained, ff to the 2:10 mark.

At a Hunter’s Safety class, when I was a kid, a demonstration was done that left a lasting impression. The instructor held a hotdog up by the cylinder gap of a .44 Magnum. The gas cut the hotdog in half.
Paul Harrell did a similar demonstration using a chicken leg, a while back. The chicken leg demo was even better than the hotdog.

Keep your thumb BEHIND the cylinder gap. I have been shooting my .44 Magnum loads just like this for decades.
