Rediscovering Revolvers

I always think it’s slightly amusing when folks rediscover wheel guns. My favorite comment is this.
People have successfully defended their lives with snub nose revolvers for 100+ years. You can too.
I do carry pocket revolvers and I think they’re a wonderful alternative to either OWB (which is non-permissive at times) or IWB (which I hate), and more accessible than ankle carry.
But as with any weapon, you’re only going to be as good as your practice. I would rather shoot single action because the trigger is as tactile as a 1911, but if I carry a wheel gun to the range, I always make sure to shoot a couple of cylinders in double action.

Take up ICORE. Some years back I took a friend whose only round gun was a snubby to an ICORE match, and had to loan him several 5-round speed loaders. His first stage wasn’t good, but by #6 his scores were better than a lot of shooters slinging K frames. He showed up 2 matches later with a used but excellent condition Model 66. In ICORE, usually once a quarter there’s a BUG stage, some clubs more often, but nothing says you can’t shoot the entire match with a 5-rounder. I do that now and then, just like I’ll sometimes shoot an IPSC match with my backup semi-auto, a P365, or run my regular carry gun left handed for the entire match. Skills can be developed, but they are also fungible.
Running a DA revolver well, or, rather, running a revolver in DA well, is a useful skill to have and it translates to better trigger management skills with a semi-auto. Does make you want to find a good revolver smith to lighten and smooth the action, though.

My double action snub shooting is likely crap now. I used to shoot a Charter Arms Undercover in the early 80’s ‘okay’ (5 shots on paper plate at 5 yards in <5 seconds) but I haven't done that in YEARS. It wasn't a bad CC – this was long before permits for general public carry were available but I carried it anyway in sketchy environments – I felt much safer. IWB holster.

I have a friend who shoots USPSA, and he just got a Ruger LCR in 327 Federal Magnum. Says some rounds he chronoed are doing around 1400FPS out of the 17/8″” barrel. He loves the thing.
