Still remember reading Jack London’s “To Build a Fire” as a kid. I used to do a lot of winter backpacking/camping. One of my worst experiences was in northern Wisconsin up by Lake Superior with an approaching cold front. It brought cold rain then turned to heavy, wet snow that made everything miserable. We ended up bailing out and instead drove the next day towards Bemidji, Minn to get away from the semi-wet. So it turned really cold. We had packed in some beer; was frozen solid and we tossed the cans in the fire to thaw them out.
