The Delay in Pete Hegseth’s Confirmation
BY Herschel Smith
They had to take a cloture vote just to get past the threat of a filibuster. So they took a vote on whether to take a vote. You can’t make this stuff up.
The nomination of Pete Hegseth, President Donald Trump’s pick for Defense Secretary, advanced in a procedural vote Thursday afternoon, 51-49. Both Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski voted “no” in a procedural vote on Hegseth’s confirmation Thursday.
Murkowski of Alaska said Thursday she is “unable to support” Pete Hegseth for secretary of defense, becoming the first Republican to state her opposition to President Trump’s nominee ahead of his Senate confirmation vote.
Collins of Maine soon followed in saying she won’t vote for Hegseth, citing his views on women in combat.
Having women in combat violated God’s laws. I suspect Pete’s position is much softer than mine. Collins and Murkowski will answer one day for their sins.
In the mean time, ponder just why Senator Chris Murphy (who is apparently the designated democrat bad boy of the day) is going this.
They have had three Obama terms now to fire the good generals, install bad ones, enforce DEI, push transgenders, and soften standards. It’s a Marxist dream come true – the largest budget of any federal administration and the most employees.
It’s their prize possession. They won’t give it up without a fight. They hate to lose it.
But lose it they will – at least to some degree.
On a related note, recall that we discussed Stuart Scheller and his public demand for accountability for the Afghanistan withdrawal? Well, Stu has been hired into Pete’s DoD.

Yeah I heard Collins and Alaska’s finest are voting no. That leaves 51 yes votes. Let’s get it done and start cleaning house…

She is definitely NOT Alaska’s finest. We hate her! This abomination retains her seat because of rank choice voting. We still haven’t figured out how to beat it The last attempt to repeal RCV failed. We have another attempt in the pipeline. She is an embarrassment!

Yes. The idiot voters in Idaho went for RCV as well. So now, in certain circumstances, the democrats can help us pick our candidates. We will see how that works out in the future.
I guess it won’t matter anyway as much of the previous California population now lives in Idaho.

Give Collins some slack, she was told to vote against Pete by Thune. She is up for reelection in 26, right now she is polling 51% against an unknown democratic candidate that is at 43%.
Maine voted 52% Harris vs 45% Trump. With these numbers Collins would be defeated in 26. The republicans need her reelected to keep the senate majority.
If push comes to shove she will vote to confirm Pete.
Murkowski is in the same boat although not up for reelection until 28.

@TheAlaskan, sorry about that, should have used some better words… Alaska has shown the country what Rank Choice Voting can bring you.. Fortunately RCV was sounded defeated in MO this fall. I hope you can get rid of her in 2028!

Hegseth got his current wife pregnant while he was married to his last wife whom he had three kids; his current wife was also married to another man when Hegseth got her pregnant and had three children. They both dumped their old spouses and got married, so they only have one child together. Everyone is talking about what a wonderful family they have and he is a wonderful Christian, etc. I can only imagine the pain of their former spouses, and what a mind bend it must be for those kids. I don’t think this will end well.
I am a Christian, and I don’t think someone with that track record should given the job of SECDEF. He is not trustworthy.
As for women in combat, I am interested in where you find that prohibition in the Bible? Joel was praised and blessed for killing the military commander Sisera in Judges 5: 24-26. Thanks for the answer.

I think it’s fairly well known and well understood that Hegseth and his wife are fairly recent converts.
As to the second issue, men, not women, bear responsibility to serve in combat if war is necessary (Gen. 14:14; Num. 31:3,21,49; Deut. 20:5-9,13-14; Josh. 1:14-18; 6:3,7,9; 8:3; 10:7; 1 Sam. 16:18; 18:5; 2 Sam. 11:1; 17:8; 23:8-39; Ps. 45:3-5; Song of Sol. 3:7-8; Isa. 42:13).

Thanks for the Bible verses! I hope you are right about them being converts. They are very young.
