How Often Do You Clean Your Guns?

I have difficulty believing that a dirty rifle barrel produces any significant gain in accuracy, and I would love to hear what some precision shooters have to say about this. What is your experience?

I clean my Surgeon, Mcmillian and OBR when the groups start to open up…
To many long range courses have proven to me….
Days of shooting of 200-400 rds for 3 days in a row effects my zero and accuracy, ZERO.
That said, i always lube the actions.
And thats my experience

IF you clean and oil your weapons after using them there should be no need to do so prior to use.
If it’s been a long while a pass with an oily patch occasionally to keep rust at bay should be more than adequate between uses.

Depends on the rifle, but in general, I find cleaning to be unnecessary. If the rifle will sit a long while, it gets an oiled patch. New rifles get an initial cleaning, and I’ll clean if I’ve been hunting in nasty conditions.
My hunting rifle, specifically, takes 20-30 rounds after cleaning before it settles in, and point of impact shifts. I like to verify my zero pre season, and then shoot it in that verified state. No one wants to wound their game.

I rarely clean my barrel in a Savage 308…..If I do, it takes about 25 rounds to foul it up again and set a consistent point of impact. Cleaned it maybe three times in the last 5 years.
