Police Accountability

Cleveland police officer: I shot suspect, killing him, after he declined to get out of car, reached for gun. Witnesses: The suspect was kneeling on the ground with his hands up when the officer shot him in the back of the head. Jury: Excessive force. District court: Pay $4 mil. Sixth Circuit: Affirmed. (The officer is still on the force.)
Protecting and serving the shit out of people.

Gee – excessive force sure smells a lot like murder. Once again, wearing the right outfit lets (only) one get away with it.

It is sad when these stories get little more than a “hmmm” out of me because they have become so frequent. Sad indeed.

Jones, the shooter, was a hero cop for his actions according to the county prosecutor:

“McGinty, in a letter to Cleveland Police Chief Calvin D. Williams, said Jones “correctly and heroically took action to protect the citizens of safety of the citizens of Cleveland.””
Apparently, the District Court and the Court of Appeals disagreed with Jones’ “heroic” actions. Unfortunately, the taxpayers, and not Jones, will pay up for the judgement.
My belief is that if a cop is found guilty he, not us, should be personally responsible for any monetary verdict.

Or perhaps if guilty of murder 1, hang from the neck until dead, or murder 2, penitentiary for life.

This unfortunately is the outcome in virtually ALL such cases. The criminal pinned to a badge is rarely charged and the longsuffering
taxpayer is once again handed the bill for the blood money used to
pay off the victim and/or the victims family. There isn’t an OUNCE of
‘Justice’ involved with this case….or in virtually ANY case like it. And the
happen ALL TOO OFTEN. It’s extremely apparent that the legal system
in America ( we DO NOT HAVE a “justice” system, and if justice does occur in an American courtroom it is an accidental and unintended byproduct of the LEGAL process) is totally unwilling to hold it’s hired muscle accountable under the law. Therefore if ‘we the people’ want them
to face justice said justice will by needs be meted out one instance at a time in the dark when the target of said justice is conveniently available for their day of reckoning. Because that is the ONLY way these criminals in blue will meet justice.
