The reason I bought one is that they want to ban them. And they are a cool firearm for sporting and other hunting purposes.

Renowned tactical trainer and military authority, former U.S. Army Special Forces and SOF-D (Delta Force) soldier Larry Vickers has expressed the view that while the AK-47/AKM is an ideal weapon for conscripts and other minimally-trained personnel, as the training, skill and experience of the individual soldier increases, he tends to gravitate overwhelmingly to the AR platform.
The accuracy, versatility, modularity, and adaptability of the platform are virtually without peer, qualities which make the AR family of weapons extremely attractive for highly-skilled, well-trained personnel.
Not just American personnel, either – Vickers has traveled extensively and has observed and/or operated alongside numerous tier-one personnel from other nations. Many of them prefer the AR platform as well. For example, the standard service rifle of the British Army is the SA80 bull-pup carbine, which fires the same 5.56×45 mm NATO cartridge as the AR series. However, the troopers of the Special Air Service (SAS), Britain’s elite special operations regiment, prefer to use the M-4 or M-16 and its variants.
Vickers saw the same thing amongst Russia’s Alpha special ops forces – they preferred AR platform carbines and rifles, when they could get them.
Here’s a link to an excellent interview of Larry Vickers where he expresses the opinions cited by Georgiaboy61 (above) as well as his thoughts on a variety of other firearm-related topics:
Exactly! People in Europe are now fighting to hold onto their muzzle loaders.

Thought Europeans had already lost the muzzle loaders too; even having a ‘potatoe gun” or equivalent will get you locked up there. No freedom any more!!! they were never as free as we are/were.
A primary reason to choose the AR standard frame size is that it is the de facto standard for almost all government agencies. That means replacement parts are literally everywhere. It’s the old “dropped once, in excellent condition” sort of thing.
Everyone should have between five and ten fully functional 80% receivers in their bunker or retreat, plus some cached. Acquiring completed uppers, chrome lined or stainless barrels only please, should be in progress, too.

@Gryphon. For the overhead mount in a Crown Vic (if they haven’t migrated to Chargers or Explorers) one might hypothetically try the AUX button on the console between the seats.
