The Founding Fathers Did Know About Repeating Rifles

Despite the fact that Joseph Belton failed to convince the Continental Congress to outfit colonial soldiers with his repeating rifle, it’s still a very important story. Belton invented his gun in 1777. The Bill of Rights wasn’t ratified until 1791. That means our Founding Fathers not only knew about repeating rifles 14 years before the creation of the Second Amendment, but that they thought highly enough of the idea to pursue further development and implementation of such technology. The fact that it proved to be cost-prohibitive is moot, as it certainly could have been done if Congress and Belton had agreed upon the definition of “reasonable compensation.”
So, the next time someone tells you the Second Amendment was never designed to protect the right to own a repeating rifle, or that it was only meant to apply to flintlock firearms, sit them down and tell them the story of Joseph Belton and his repeating flintlock musket.

In other words, do not attempt to “reason” with someone who wants you dead.

The Founding Fathers not only knew about assault weapons, some owned them. Thomas Jefferson bought assault weapons and sent them on the Lewis and Clark expedition.
In fact, these assault weapons were .46 caliber, military, magazine fed, rifles with high capacity magazines capable of firing 22 shots in 60 seconds.
They even came with four, 22 round speedloaders.

We don’t do this to convince a prog, we correct them in front of others so that others may be better informed.

The Second Amendement didn’t apply only to small arms. It applied to the most powerful engines of destuction known to history up to that point – the armed warship. Of which the fledgling United States had none, and therefore leased from private citizens. And later there was resistance at the idea of the Government having to buy its own ships and train sailors, because that cost real money, and it was cheaper just to rent them when needed.
When your military is getting its weapons from its own citizenry, the concept of “keep and bear arms” changes, wot?
