Ruger: “Long Live The Lever Gun”

Ruger.

Sturm, Ruger and Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) announced today that its offer to purchase substantially all of the Marlin Firearms assets was accepted by Remington Outdoor Company, Inc. and approved by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama. The Company will pay the $30 million purchase price from cash on hand at the time of closing, which is expected to occur in October.

“The value of Marlin and its 150-year legacy was too great of an opportunity for us to pass up,” said Ruger President and CEO Chris Killoy. “The brand aligns perfectly with ours and the Marlin product portfolio will help us widen our already diverse product offerings.”

The transaction is exclusively for the Marlin Firearms assets. Remington firearms, ammunition, other Remington Outdoor brands, and all facilities and real estate are excluded from the Ruger purchase. Once the purchase is completed, the Company will begin the process of relocating the Marlin Firearms assets to existing Ruger manufacturing facilities.

“The important thing for consumers, retailers and distributors to know at this point in time,” continued Killoy, “is that the Marlin brand and its great products will live on. Long Live the Lever Gun.”

It sounds like they have their finger on the pulse of the American gun-buying public.  This is good news.  I’m sure Ruger will do a good job with Marlin designs, maybe bringing it back to original quality.

Maybe they’ll also be more competitive with lever gun prices.

I wonder if they got the rights to Harrington & Richardson / New England Firearms, since both brands were already subsidiaries of Marlin when they got bought by Remington.

Remington shutting down production of the Handi-Rifle line was a travesty. I hope Ruger brings it back.

The underlying point of all of this is that this is what is planned for every manufacturer. The Left has made gun control a centerpiece of their agenda if Biden wins and one key component to their plan is eliminating liability protection for firearms manufacturers. Suing one company after another into bankruptcy will have the same basic impact as normal gun bans.

$30 million seems like a screaming deal to me. And in the tradition of Bill Ruger Sr. it was made without acquiring a penny of debt.
This will be fun to watch what Ruger does with Marlin’s rifles. I’m sure they’ll be doing some slick tweaking. And what a perfect fit for the company.

  4. On October 2, 2020 at 11:14 am, John said:

Yes!!! If any company can bring Marlin back to making quality products, it’s Ruger.
Remington ammo also has hit reliability lows for years and I’m sure Ruger can
    straighten that out also.

@Elmo and all, 30 mill is a great price to enter the Lever Action Market. The lawsuit and patent infringement liability alone is worth it. Ruger will have a base model(s) and presumably patents from which to operate freely without accusation from the other manufacturers in this segment. Seems like a solid win. I like where Ruger is right now, and where they are going.

  6. On October 2, 2020 at 2:42 pm, 41mag said:

They’ll be competing with Henry who’s made good rifles.

    Competition is good.

  7. On October 2, 2020 at 2:45 pm, Sanders said:

If anyone invests in the stock market, remember that Ruger is a publicly traded company. That means that any nefarious billionaire like Soros or Bloomberg can buy up their stock. So, try and keep Ruger’s stock in friendly hands.

I read a while back about some investment group made up of nuns or something, bought up enough stock in Ruger to have voting rights and were trying to change things inside the boardroom.

In other words, the communists want to attain via judicial fiat what they can’t gain via the legislative process. Traditional conservative people are, of a type, generally “law-and-order” people, but why should they be compelled to obey laws which are de facto weapons custom-made to target them and deliberately destroy a way of life? There is a word which folks on the other side of the line from the communists need to learn, and that word is “No!” – spoken loudly and forcefully. With action to back up those words.

A dispassionate reading of history tells us that tyrannical governments and individuals alike almost invariably first attempt to disarm those whom they would persecute prior to victimizing them. The Ottoman Turks did it to the Armenian Christians and Greeks; Stalin did it to the enemies of the Soviet state; Hitler did it to the Jews, gypsies and other so-called “under-men” of Europe; Mao did it to his fellow Chinese, and so forth.

A day or two ago, former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo stated, “Those who reject ‘woke politics’ are going to be the first people lined up against the wall and shot in the revolution” and he’d “happily provide video commentary.”

Legally-speaking, that’s known as a statement of intent. And he is far-from-being the only communist/leftist/Democrat to voice such opinions in recent years. They do not simply disagree with us; they hate us and want us dead.

We have intent, and thanks to the left telling us their plans and our own powers of observation – the outlines of the plan of action they intent to employ.

Will civic nationalist conservatives continue to wave their copies of the constitution even as they are herded onto the rail cars, or will they at last begin to resist in a meaningful way?

To echo a point made by the host of this blog, any firearms/ammunition manufacturer foolish-enough to remain in a leftist-run state is asking for trouble. The smart ones have already left or are preparing to move now.

    John @11:14am

    You mentioned Remington ammo
My understanding from the article is the sale is for the Marlin brand only
Therefore I don’t think that the ammo division is part of the sale.

    Here’s the breakdown-
    https://gatdaily.com/ruger-buys-marlin/

Vista Outdoors (Federal, CCI, Speer) got the ammunition.
    Sierra Bullets got Barnes.
Palmetto State Armory got DPMS, H&R, etc.
A Virginia investment firm got the core Remington firearm business.
