I often wonder how the finest shootists in the West—Hardin, Holliday and Hickok—actually practiced their art. Besides the fact that they went at it every day, what else did they do? And what happens to a man’s firearms training when he knows that he is up against not a target or a balloon, but another man with every intent to kill him?

I am going to ask a stupid ?(better then being stupid)but when re holstering say a striker fire pistol with only a safety trigger and safety hopefully in brain why would I not perhaps after a incident where I had to shoot other folks drop mag/clear ect./or at least visibly/physically check a clear holster.
I have never been in this situation(would like to keep that way)but feel if I had to shoot someone to save my life or another persons would be very wound up and feel that would be best option.
I feel a pistol with a slide safety/beaver tail safety ect. would feel more confident about holstering after a issue and perhaps something I should consider.
Any thoughts appreciated as am fairly new to pistols but doing a lot of triple checked/clear first dry fire drills.
I also feel would never holster unless the threat is clearly no longer a threat, hence clearing if striker fire.

@James check Corneredcat.com and search for holstering and reholstering. Lot of great posts and articles about safety including holstering a handgun. Your exact point is addressed.

Fred, thank you very much,I have a lot to learn.
I have a friend who when time permits(very busy Doc assistant)who served in the army in a pretty lets just say specialized group who works with me but free time for him is rare.He has loaned me a striker fire but has me on a leash to shoot at moment only when I am with him(good idea).
I am comfortable with rifles/bows/crossbows,for most part using a pistol a new world for me beyond plinking with friends in the past.
