Long Range with 45-70

First, he does a great job of shooting at that distance.
Second, as long as you get the holdovers rights, or otherwise adjust the scope for ballistics, the Marlin rifle is accurate and the cartridge looks like it would be effective.
I’d like to see ballistics gel evaluated at that range.

Man, if you can fire 150 rounds of 45-70 from a bench in TWO days, you are a lot tougher than me!

the army from the 1860-1880s has ballistic test documented for sharpshooters out to 1400 yards and confirmed kills over 1000 yards. I believe with 500 grain Postell bullet. you may find the booy 40 years with the 45-70 by Mathews to be of great interest.

A whole lot of dead buffalo are testament to the long range lethality of 45-70.

Sagebrush Longshots often take the 45-70, and even the 44-40, way beyond 300. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-7ZspP0YBQ

There used to be links to the original article–
http://usarmorment.com/pdf/45-70.pdf
–complete with illustrations and drawings, but I can’t find any now. I do have said article saved in PDF. At 3200 yards, the 500 grain bullet down angle was 70 degrees. In a simulated infantry trench, it went through two 1-inch thick pine boards and 8-10 inches into the sand.

Personal experience. It will do a number on a bear at 40 or so feet…
