Rossi USA Expands R95 Rifle Lineup with R95 45-70 Government Models

Here is Rossi’s image of their gun.
I chose the 20″ version because that’s the one I would get. I like the looks of the gun – I consider it to be aesthetically pleasing. Now, they just need to incorporate this same updated design into their .454 Casull model and I’d buy it. I think their current model looks awful.
I also question the depth of the drop of the comb. Perhaps the .454 Casull model has such a deep drop because of the lack of a pistol-grip design.
Having said all of that, their price point is right in the pocket for market competitiveness. Never having owned a Rossi USA, I have no idea about reliability and good performance.
If they would send me one I’d be happy to review it.

Now that is more like it compared to S&W previously posted about. The Trapper particularly speaks to me because south Texas is awfully thick in a lot of places. A feral hog gun in .45/70 for the brush – yeah, that Trapper has some positive features. Probably pass on the hoop lever though.
I have a much older Rossi .357 Magnum Puma, the one with round medallion in receiver. Bought in late 1980’s, probably far different from this one. My only complaint of that one is bluing is very much a rust magnet. If I don’t clean it within an hour of getting back, some rust freckling is very likely. I must have battery acid running in my veins. Thinking of spray painting it with matte black Rustoleum bar-b-que pit paint. I did that with a single shot shotgun (FIE) barn gun with very bad outside finish that looks great.

I have a camp in the far north woods in Vermont. Very humid. I use Pledge on all of the firearms. Works on everything but my Series 70 Colt 1911. It’s plated, and rust gets under the plating. I am thinking about Cerakote for it. Damn thing seems to rust daily, under coats of oil.

May be corrosion. Salts and other stuff in body oils. It’s hard and demands commitment and discipline, but wiping the down after every use is necessary (including just touching them for something like dry fire).

The pistol rusts, but the rifle and shotgun (blued steel, with wax) don’t. The Plated Colt rusts even sitting on the table. It’s the only firearm I ever had trouble with up there.

Never had an issue with rust. I clean after each use right away. I take a shaving brush and wipe bore butter on them after. It doesn’t dry out and even if I touch the bluing it almost like a protective coating.
