Friday night music based on reader feedback after listening to Giovanni Gabrieli last Friday night: “Sheesh. Military blog. Seems like you should be doin’ rock and roll.”
My response: I am a trombone player, so I make no promises for the future. I will put more brass music on the site on Fridays, but you wanted rock … okay … you’ve got it. Turn it up to maximum, put your face near the speakers, and let the avalanche of sound plaster your hair to your head.

Each Friday night I try to give the readers something less stressful and more enjoyable. Tonight … the genius of Giovanni Gabrieli. This is the Tower Brass of Chicago, playing “Canzon septimi toni No. 1.”
Turn up the speakers and enjoy at the link below:

Yes: “Roundabout”
Whether it is the irregular meter, the great keyboard work, the difficult percussion, or the silky-smooth roaming bass line, the rock group Yes makes this piece one of the best rock songs ever written and performed, no matter what your age. Go do a Google search on “Yes Roundabout MP3,” or better yet, the link at Progressive Rock Archives is below. Midways down the page, hit play. Disconnect from the week’s travails, turn up the volume and enjoy:

We go through some heavy stuff here at TCJ. How about something lighter and more fun to close the night or weekend out?
I am probably showing my age here (something from 1977), but here it goes:

Sitting here pondering heavy things: the war in Iraq, my son’s deployment early 2007, immigration and what kind of U.S. I will turn over to my granddaughter, job, family issues, etc., etc.
A little music to relax by. Peter Gabriel, the first thing he did when he split from “Genesis.” Solsbury Hill. Go find an MP3 feed (can be found by doing a search of “solsbury hill mp3”).
An easy listen.
