John MacArthur Defies Governor Newsom

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 5 months ago

Newsom just signed an obscene bill into law.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed legislation changing the state’s sex offender law to allow judges to have a say on whether to list someone as a sex offender for having oral or anal sex with a minor.

The bill expands discretion already granted to judges to decide if a man should be on California’s sex offender registry, but the existing discretion had applied only to a man who had vaginal intercourse, The Associated Press reported.

The legislation Newsom signed Friday permits judges to use the same discretion when the case involves voluntary oral or anal sex.

He would love nothing better than to shut down good men like John MacArthur.  The church lost its most recent fight in court, and today they had worship services in defiance of his obscene governor.  This isn’t his sermon from today, but in this short video he catalogs the incredibly onerous requirements placed on his church.

In Presbyterian parlance, MacArthur is a “teaching elder” (I realize his church is independent).  Paul says, “Let elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor.”  But with that honor, there is risk.

If you have led the flock astray, if you have failed to preach the unmitigated Word of the Lord, if you have succumbed to “Critical Race Theory” or any other faddish notion like N.T. Wright’s advocacy of works salvation, so-called German “Higher Criticism” of the Scriptures (Form, Source or Redaction criticism), or any other Marxist teaching like liberation theology or race-guilt, you will be judged doubly or even worse.

The notion of “calling” to preach the Gospel in the Scriptures is a serious thing, involving first of all a drive and motivation to do it, and second a recognition by the congregation that God has indeed gifted you with the intellectual and spiritual tools to do the job.

In other words, you have sought the job.  The job didn’t seek you.  This is something you wanted.  The weight of the souls of His people is on your shoulders and heart.  If you fail at your job, the weight of eternity will be on you in the worst sort of way.

If you are unwilling to do what John MacArthur did, that is, to defy the political authorities because of your commitment to the Lord, if you are unwilling to put your hands behind your back and be carted off to prison for your faith, then give up your ordination immediately.

You are a false teacher.  You are a fraud.  You are a fake.  You are an impostor.  God has commanded His people to worship him (Heb 10:25).  If you do not do that, you are obeying men rather than God.  Your worry should be for your own salvation rather than your flock.  And since that is the case, the sermons you have preached should be shunned by the Christian community given that you are a fraud, and you’re nothing more than a carnival barker.

The next step, and the one that will probably not be taken by the elders Grace Community Church, is that the men of the church should begin bringing rifles to worship with them (in the best tradition of American history), encircle the physical plant, and make it clear to law enforcement that they intend to do lethal battle to prevent their pastor from being cuffed and spirited off to prison.

MacArthur should be willing to go to prison.  Apparently, he is.  The men of the church should be willing to shoot to ensure that doesn’t happen.  I doubt they will.  Thus the church will continue to be run over like a road bump.

Misunderstanding Theology And History

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 5 months ago

I had seen this piece before and honestly felt robbed of the five minutes of my life it took to digest and then regurgitate this drivel.  But since David links it and makes some comments it brought the acid reflux back and I decided to post on it.

Concerning “boomers.

Sacrificial Lamb nobly attempts to explain to the Boomers why they are, and will probably remain, the most despised generation in recorded human history, before they pass from the stage…

This sounds like a first grade class in a temper tantrum.  I want it all, and I want it now, now, NOW, NOW!

First of all, as we’ve explained before, sins do not redound to guilt of those who did not commit them.

” … the Biblical doctrine is, as Deuteronomy 24:16 makes clear, one of individual responsibility … guilt cannot be shifted to others or passed on to the people around a man.  Guilt is non-transferable; a disposition or nature can be inherited, but not guilt.”

So before posting such idiotic tripe again, the author should go do some study.

Second, there is historical misunderstanding in this tripe.  “Boomers” … whatever that is, are not per se responsible for the mess in which America finds itself.  Someone has been asleep.

This all began long ago, with Horace Mann, who decided that the state owned your children rather than you, and that you are unqualified to educate them in either mathematics or morals.

Social Darwinism took hold many years ago, and invaded the church.  The manifestation of the project at that point was to jettison the creeds and councils of the early church in favor of falsehood.  Communists infiltrated institutions of education, and mathematics and physics were jettisoned in favor of social management.  Those graduates taught the children who taught the children who taught the children who today teach your children in centers of communist indoctrination.

Wicked men brought premillennial dispensationalism to the American church, in which the church decided to sit back, wait on the “rapture” (which isn’t taught in the Scriptures), and turn over sports, Hollywood, entertainment, scholarship, and government to the evil one.

You see, this project has been ongoing just about since the beginning of the republic, and in fact, this project has been going on since Genesis Chapter 3.  Every individual who didn’t do what God commanded is guilty in some way, but let me make it clear, individuals are guilty and will answer for their own actions.  Generations are not guilty.

I can recommend some very good studies in the American project, how it started well, and how it was hijacked.  You can begin with many of the books and papers R.J. Rushdoony wrote, beginning with “This Independent Republic” (you could also study C. Gregg Singer [Theological Interpretation of American History] and Douglas Kelly [The Emergence of Liberty in the Modern World]), but let me make this one final thing clear.  You need to read thousands of pages in order to understand it.

Misunderstanding theology and history (the title of this post) occurs because you don’t know theology and history.  You’re an impostor, not a scholar.

Writing about a first grader temper tantrum is unseemly and embarrassing to the authors, even if they’re too stupid to know it.

Charlotte Black Lives Matter Hates Jesus

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 6 months ago

The Gateway Pundit.

Black Lives Matter rioters in Charlotte marched down the street chanting “f-ck your Jesus” on Monday night.

The chant originally began as “cops killed Jesus,” but quickly took an anti-Christian turn.

The Queen City Nerve, a local paper covering the riot, tweeted that “Protesters chanting ‘Cops killed Jesus’ then ‘Fuck your Jesus’ to drown out the chants of Sam, who’s been walking alongside protesters yelling over them with ‘Jesus Saves’ as he’s done all four nights. He just got covered with silly string after this video.”

Lovely people, no?

I know Sam.  When I once worked in downtown Charlotte, I frequently walked by him on my 3 mile walks at lunch every day.  Everyone knows Sam.  I’ve spoken with him and shook hands with him and thanked him for his daily work preaching the Gospel, handing out tracts, and praying with people on the sidewalk.  He is actually supported by the Billy Graham association.  Other people avoided him, as if embarrassed.  I loved talking to him.

Sam is a good man.

And Jesus is God.  He was God from eternity, He is the second person of the trinity, He is God today, and He will always be God.

I’m sure Sam is fine, but he has laid up treasures for himself in heaven.  I’m sure God is fine too, but He is a jealous and righteous God, who will in no wise let the guilty go unpunished.

These rioters have blasphemed the name of the most high.  They are bound for hell.  Sam is bound for heaven.  One day.  After he sidewalk preaches some more, and wins the elect of God to salvation.

California’s War On Christians

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 6 months ago

PJM.

California Governor Gavin Newsom and county leaders are escalating the state’s war on church worship services, dragging pastors into court and demanding thousands of dollars in fines for illegally singing and holding indoor worship services.

This stand-off is getting closer to a religious hot war, with some of the same tactics being used, such as sending “agents” behind enemy lines to “spy” on worship services.

The state is armed with Newsom’s no-worship order and subpoenas. One county even nailed a complaint letter to a church door. Even Martin Luther would see the folly of that move.

In California during the Wuhan coronavirus, you can shop, eat out, riot, loot, and protest. But there are tough constraints on church worship. Churches can feed the hungry, but parishioners can’t take communion. Churches can house the homeless, but can’t sit six feet apart in the same pew with a neighbor.

This is the communist war on God that we had expected.  It has been simmering for years and has begun to come to a boil.  It will get more intense.

We will see who the real churches really are, and some will eventually shut down.  Christians and their pastors will be dragged into court, fined until they cannot pay any more, and perhaps imprisoned.

On the other hand, those pretend churches who have declared fealty to the state will be allowed to continue their existence, albeit with no worship services (which wouldn’t matter anyway since nothing of any value is being said in those services).

Take careful note.  The police will take an active part in posting notices, arresting, serving papers, and carting Christians off to jail.

That last part is for fools who believe that the police are there to protect your rights.

Listening To The Killers

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 6 months ago

David Codrea.

“Killers’ voices are missing from gun violence conversation,” New Prospect Baptist Church pastor Damon Lynch III asserts in a Tuesday opinion piece for Cincinnati’s The Enquirer. He’s referring to “the recent rash of shootings and murders in the city of Cincinnati over a three-day span, leaving 21 shot and 4 dead.”

As it turns out “Four of the people shot were connected to New Prospect Baptist Church, and two of those four died.” It’s fair to ask “Why?”

[ … ]

“When the questions are raised on how we stop the violence, I think there is a voice often missing from the conversation,” he says.  “But the voice never heard is that of the killers.”

“We need psychologists, psychoanalysts, psychotherapists and researchers to go into the prisons and speak to those convicted of taking a life to ascertain the deep hidden ‘why’ of violent crime,” Lynch concludes.

Some pastor.  It’s called Genesis Chapter 3.  There.  I saved him from having to go back to seminary again (it didn’t take the first time around).

Besides, if we followed the Scriptures like we should, we would put murderers and rapists to death and thieves into servitude to the ones from whom they stole until their debt was paid in multiples (see Greg Bahnsen, “Theonomy in Christian Ethics”).

There is no concept of imprisonment to be found in the Holy Writ, especially not for rehabilitation, or for a so-called “debt to society.”  No one has a debt to society.  If you or I have debts, it is to someone, not everyone.

America’s Original Sin—Racism

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 6 months ago

Robert S. Harvey writing at Education Week.

As schools fumble to talk about America’s original sin—racism—well-meaning white teachers (and some Black folks) often assume that cultural relevance equals applauding individual progress.

You schmuck.  I hate nothing worse than people pretending to be something they’re not.

Jesus was a good man and great example – countries can have original sin – God loves everyone and we’re all just brothers and sisters in the family of God – and so on with the claptrap.

If you believe those things you’re not a Christian.  Jesus is God (No, He didn’t become a god because of his obedience or anything else – He was always God).  Countries cannot have original sin.  Jesus was clear in John 8:44-45.

Original sin has to do with the federal headship of Adam.  The WCF.

I. Our first parents, being seduced by the subtilty and temptations of Satan, sinned, in eating the forbidden fruit. This their sin, God was pleased, according to His wise and holy counsel, to permit, having purposed to order it to His own glory.

II. By this sin they fell from their original righteousness and communion, with God, and so became dead in sin, and wholly defiled in all the parts and faculties of soul and body.

III. They being the root of all mankind, the guilt of this sin was imputed; and the same death in sin, and corrupted nature, conveyed to all their posterity descending from them by ordinary generation.

IV. From this original corruption, whereby we are utterly indisposed, disabled, and made opposite to all good, and wholly inclined to all evil, do proceed all actual transgressions.

And I’ve been clear.

” … the Biblical doctrine is, as Deuteronomy 24:16 makes clear, one of individual responsibility … guilt cannot be shifted to others or passed on to the people around a man.  Guilt is non-transferable; a disposition or nature can be inherited, but not guilt.”

One man’s sin does not redound to another man’s sin.  And no, I’m not going to give anyone “reparations.”

So if you believe any of these false doctrines, call yourself something other than a Christian.

And to Mr. Harvey, you’re an impostor.  Stop [mis]appropriating my theology.  I don’t appreciate it at all.

John MacArthur: “We’re Having Church!”

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 6 months ago

I have a lot of things in common with John.  He is a reformed Baptist, and I hold completely to the Westminster Confession of Faith, so he and I differ on baptism and eschatology.  Other than that, I’ve enjoyed his sermons when I’ve heard them.  He is a decent and honorable man, and a good teacher.

He stated in an earlier video (if I’m not mistaken) that he hadn’t had any pastors in America – any pastors in America – contact him and offer support, prayers or encouragement for his stand against the state and intent to have worship services.  Ponder that.

Churches have shut down all over America based on the word of the state, while making [false] claims that the Christ is the head of their church.  Christ is indeed the head of the church, but not the head of fake churches.

American seminaries have raised several generations of weak, effeminate, Biblically illiterate hypocrites who believe that Jesus was a Bohemian hippie flower child peacenik.  What would these pretend men do in the early church?

At the time of the Roman arenas, elders would baptize new converts, with both pastor and convert knowing that as soon as the baptism was completed, they were going to be arrested and thrown to their deaths.  Today in America, pastors cannot even bring themselves to be faithful to the apostle’s command in Hebrews 10:25 when the state gets pissy. God help them if they were to have to mount horses and drive raping, murderous invaders out during the Crusades.

It’s truly a sad state of affairs.  But if nothing else, this has done a lot to pull the mask off of the fake church (pun intended).

Gorsuch Versus Roberts On Calvary Chapel

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 7 months ago

I don’t really like either one of them.  But they apparently don’t like each other.

JUSTICE GORSUCH, dissenting from denial of application for injunctive relief. This is a simple case. Under the Governor’s edict, a 10- screen “multiplex” may host 500 moviegoers at any time. A casino, too, may cater to hundreds at once, with perhaps six people huddled at each craps table here and a similar number gathered around every roulette wheel there. Large numbers and close quarters are fine in such places. But churches, synagogues, and mosques are banned from admitting more than 50 worshippers—no matter how large the building, how distant the individuals, how many wear face masks, no matter the precautions at all. In Nevada, it seems, it is better to be in entertainment than religion. Maybe that is nothing new. But the First Amendment prohibits such obvious discrimination against the exercise of religion. The world we inhabit today, with a pandemic upon us, poses unusual challenges. But there is no world in which the Constitution permits Nevada to favor Caesars Palace over Calvary Chapel.

It’s one thing to favor Home Depot and Lowe’s over the local hardware store.  That’s bad enough.  But here they’re entangling themselves into something that will haunt them.

But this isn’t about logic, or the metaphysics of “possible worlds.”  The reason, Justice Gorsuch, that Roberts favored entertainment over Calvary Chapel is that he has fealty to the evil one.

So when you go into deliberations with him in the future, you can know that you’re looking into the eyes of deep seated commitment to wickedness.

And You Thought You Could Appease The Communists?

BY Herschel Smith
4 years, 7 months ago

Wirecutter.

Police Chief of Department Terence Monahan who knelt with BLM protestors in June was beaten during protest activity today, according to the Daily Wire. Monahan and other officers were marching in the Power to Prayer March.

The AP reported that “Police photos of the aftermath showed a lieutenant with a bloodied face, a detective holding a bandage to his head, and a bicycle officer helping a fellow officer dress a head wound. Monahan, who last month knelt in solidarity with protesters, sustained injuries to his hand, said to be bloodied but not seriously hurt.”

There is no appeasement.  There is no compromise.  There is no getting long.  They want an end to the American system and the destruction of the middle class.

I do have one more point to make.  I’ve heard some of my folk (Christian) say they want peace, preaching and prayer.

Fine, all points.  But peace will not happen, prayer is always good, but regarding preaching, these people don’t even have a common language with us.

Let me see if I can explain it this way.  You’ve all heard the stories about missionaries who had difficulty with their work because the tribe to whom they were witnessing had no word for “such-and-such,” let’s say, sin, or forgiveness, or atonement, or grace.

But that’s not right.  It’s more than just the lack of a common word.  It’s the lack of a common thought.  Gordon Clark says in his book (this is a simplification) “Language and Theology” that words are merely tags for thoughts.  The use of words constructed into sentences has as its point the communication of a thought from on person to another.

Horace Mann and John Dewey successful eradicated Christian thought from the American scene, and the dispensationalists, rather than fight it with scholarship, sit and wait on being spirited away from the problem.

America is done.  The communists today lack a common world view, common thoughts, and a common language even to understand what we’re saying when we speak to them.  Do you see?  We don’t even speak the same language as the communists today.

Their redemption means the destruction of Western civilization, although they wouldn’t use the word redemption.  Even witnessing to them means a basic level of understanding and education they don’t have.  This is a multi-generational problem, not one that can be fixed with a sermon.

Penses.

A HARD PLACE (UN, ANTIFA, BLM, LA RAZA, MBH, CAIR, MS13)

(you are here)

A ROCK (DEEP STATE, DOJ, FBI, DEA, DHS, BATF, DOD, Local police and sheriffs)

Unfortunately, that’s right on the mark.  The things unleashed at otherwise peaceable men are abominable, but just as outrageous is that the very people who should be punishing the evil-doers are protecting them.

Romans 13 doesn’t give the state the mission of fighting poverty, or fighting a war on drugs, or lording it over their people, or tyrannizing them, or confiscating guns, or performing COIN missions of community engagement.

It gives the police and courts one and only one mission: to punish evil-doers.  Just as the singular mission given to the armed forces, i.e., to protect the borders of the country, has been abandoned in favor of foreign misadventures, the police and courts are doing everything but what God has commanded and ignore the one thing He commanded them to do.

God: “I gave one one job.  Just one.  You failed.”
